Services Provided

Our goal is to provide comprehensive psychiatric services that are integrated with assessment and treatment of a patient's mental health, physical health, and psychosocial environment.  Dr. Herbst belives that his primary responsibility is to be a physician, concerned with maximizing his patients' mental and physical health using a wholistic, yet evidence based and scientific approach.

Our services include an initial evaluation in which Dr. Herbst reviews your current concerns and also evaluates your physical health and personal history to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that you understand and addresses your needs. Your treatment plan may include medication, psychotherapy, medical and laboratory evaluation, and treatment of physical illnesses that might be contributing to the psychiatric condition.

Specific Services Include:

Initial Evaluation: 1.5 hours with Dr. Herbst, including review of relevant medical, psychosocial, and psychiatric history, and development of an initial treatment approach.

Extended Follow Up Visit with Psychotherapy
:  50 minutes with Dr. Herbst, combining psychotherapy with medication managment or extensive medication managment of complex cases.

Crisis Managment : An extended visit of 50 minutes to address an unexpected event or coordinate care in complex cases.

Standard Follow up visit: A visit of 20-30 minutes to manage medications which includes brief psychotherapy, patient education, and evaluation of routine medical issues.

Medical/Legal Matters, Disability Forms, Letters to Employers, Agencies or Other Reports: Dr. Herbst has extensive experience testifying as an expert witness and in forensic matters such as disability, competency to stand trial, and psychiatric factors that may be relevant to civil or criminal proceedings. Because the confidentiality of the psychiatrist/patient relationship is of the utmost importance, particularly in such matters, it is Dr. Herbst's policy to meet with each patient individually to write any letters or reports to employers, insurance companies or other agencies. In very routine matters, this can be accomplished in a brief follow up visit, but generally requires an extended follow up visit. This allows patients a chance to review what information is being released, verify the accuracy of the information, and prevent misunderstandings and delays.
